Indeed, most people are constantly dissatisfied with themselves and with the world around them. But Rabbi Nachman teaches us that appreciation can be learned even from a simpleton. After seeing a shoe that was owned by a simple man, Rabbi Nachman exclaimed, “What a wonderful and beautiful shoe! It is a honey gingerbread, not a shoe!”
