Description

House of the Rebbe is one of the most important books on the beginning of the history of the Chabad movement. Naturally, at the center of the narrative, as the name suggests, are biographies of the first three chapters of this trend in Hasidism – Rabbi Shneur-Zalman of Liadi, his son Rabbi Dov-Ber from Lubavitch (Mittler Rebbe), and grandson Rabbi Menachem-Mendel (Tsemach Tsedek). The author, Rabbi Chaim-Meir Gelman, for fourteen years collected unique and exclusive documents, as we would say today, testimonies (many – first-hand), thanks to which he was able to offer the reader a fairly complete and really deep picture of the period described. The book’s particular merit is that it allows you to look at the history of Hasidic through the eyes of Hasid, not burdened with dislike and bias towards the subject of his research, unlike almost all the academic researchers who wrote on the same subject.
