The book is written by Nechemiah Pereferkovich, and astounding scholar of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Receiving a gold medal from St. Petersburg University for his excellence in Eastern languages, Nechemiah Pereferkovich began a grandiose project to translate the Talmud into Russian. Between the years 1897 and 1911, he published two volumes of the Talmud (which included in it the translation of the Mishna, Tosefta, and Midrashim). He was one of the initiators of the Jewish encyclopedia. This novel includes in it two of his most famous works, which include Talmud: History and Content, and  What is the Shulkhan Aruch? These works were published in 1897 and 1899, respectively.
