Description
Belief in the coming of Moshiach is the foundation of Judaism, one of the thirteen principles on which the Jewish faith rests. Every son of the Jewish people must believe in him and look forward to him. The six blessings in the central prayer “Shmone Esre”, repeated three times a day, are dedicated to the request for Liberation. The question is, why is the topic of Moshiach’s coming so important?
It would seem that the arrival of Moshiach has to do with what will happen only in the future. There are many prophecies in the Torah relating to the End of Days period, and we certainly believe in each of them. At the same time, with regard to the coming of Moshiach, we are required to have a deeper faith, a daily expectation of him, an unceasing prayer, a feeling that without Moshiach our whole life is not life. But can’t a Jew now study the Torah and fulfill the commandments while serving his Creator? Why is he required to expect so much for the coming of Moshiach?
